The well established and recognized Yoga Passage Teacher Training course provides the fundamentals of teaching Yoga in a safe and intelligent way. The initial program got underway in 2004 and has been operating and evolving over the past thirteen years. The YP Teacher Training course has offered hundreds of participants the space to expand their knowledge of the practice and gain the tools to share the teachings. Graduates of the course have gone on to teach at local studios, carry their knowledge abroad as far as Nicaragua, Australia, and India. Others have opened their own yoga facilities and even lead their own teacher training courses.
The Yoga Passage teacher training course is a profound and personal experience, encouraging growth, introspection, and creativity. It is based on the ancient teaching system of Yoga, integrating the student's daily life into the yoga training. By the end of the course, the student will possess a firm foundation for teaching others, in addition to strenthening his or her own yoga practice with self-discipline, and awareness of the nature of body, mind and spirit. Upon graduation from the course, students will reciece a Yoga Teacher Certificate with 200 Hours of qualification and will be confident to lead a safe and effective practice, and further, graduates will emerge transformed.

The course is offered twice a year in two popular formats. The Fall-Winter course is 12 weekends spread out over the span of 7 months running Mid September to Mid March. The second course format or "July Intensive" is held on the weekdays of the four weeks during July 8:00AM to 5:00PM with breaks and time for lunch and weekends off.

TESTIMONIALS

Trina Sharkoske

Sept-March 2014/15 Grad

In September 2014, I embarked on my journey of the 200 hour teacher training program offered at Yoga Passage. The training itself was nothing short of absolute perfection. Not only did the training provide me with a solid basis that enabled me to begin teaching yoga right away but it helped create lifelong friendships. The facilitators, including Tanis, Tracy and Carol shared a wealth of knowledge in a sacred environment of which I continue to share and learn from day after day. I currently teach at various studios in Calgary and I’m grateful that I was able to take such a strong program that set me up for success

I consider myself so fortunate to have crossed paths with Yoga Passage and their teachers, for without them I would not have enrolled in their Yoga Teacher 200hr Course and be who I am today. Beginning the lessons in September 2014 I was searching; at that moment I thought I was just searching to learn what was needed to become a great yoga teacher, but as time went on I learned that I was actually searching for my true self. And by graduation in March of 2015, I had not only found myself, but I had found a happier, more compassionate, confident and forgiving version of my self. I also found more than 25 incredible friendships that I know will last a lifetime. During teacher training I noticed each student was on their own unique and exciting journey, but we all connected as one happy family for 7 months sharing our struggles and accomplishments and ultimately each becoming a better person through it. Everyone's experience was completely different, but I can tell you mine was life-changing and wonderful. I progressed my physical practice, I took great leaps with my meditational practice, and I added immense amounts of knowledge from the entire body's anatomy to ancient Yogic history. Through many opportunities to practice teaching and hands on adjusting, I emerged from training ready to teach yoga and actually taught my first class on the evening I graduated Teacher Training! Since then I have been teaching many classes a week at studios, at first in Calgary and then in Melbourne, Australia when I moved there for 4 months. This program was exactly the one that fit for me, allowing me to practice lessons, ask questions and study between weekends of learning. Not all programs make you feel ready to teach as soon as you graduate but some friends in this program who did not plan to teach at all ended up teaching some classes when they were done, we just felt so supported and prepared! I know my journey of learning has only just begun but I am grateful it started at Yoga Passage. I am thankful for everyone's love, inspiration and commitment to learning and am looking forward to Advanced Teacher Training in my future. Namaste my friends.

July Intensive 2016 Grad

I went into yoga teacher training no knowing what to expect. I knew i wanted to axpand upon my asana practice, and that I did, but what i received from the training went so far beyond that. The faculty was incredible, extremely knowledgeable and so supportive. The people were amazing - I've made life long friends. The information was so comprehensive, and has helped me become the confident teacher I am today. Above all, the life lessons I've learned have fostered exponential personal growth. I would always recommend this training to anyone hoping to learn, grow, and delve deep into the world of yoga!

Sept-March 2012/13 Grad

Our Anatomy & philosophy guru, Dr. Carol Hutchison, can be found at the intersection of eastern philosophy and western medicine. . Ever humble, doctor Carole takes her own medicine with the class as she offers up the class - clear instructions and a smiling face impossible to stay mad at no matter how long she offers plank pose.

YIN IS IN!

Yin Yoga Advanced Teacher Training with Alan Mileham. E-RYT500 and YACEP with Yoga Alliance USA, YA ID 84306.

As more and more Yoga Studios add Yin Yoga to their schedule, the demand for Trained Yin Yoga Teachers is ever increasing.

Over the course of the 15 Hour weekend, you will learn the Elements & Fundamentals of a Yin Yoga Practice, along with Modifications & the Sequencing of a Yin Yoga Class. Mindfulness & The Meridians in Yin Yoga will also be discussed.

This Yin Intensive TT with Alan Mileham, focuses on establishing a strong foundation from which participants that attend the Yin TT are able to apply to teach Yin Yoga to their students. In my experience a strong foundation is the key to any Yoga Practice.

We will spend time on the three main benefits or principles of Yin Yoga, the Physical, Mental/Mindfulness & Energetics. You will learn the differences between Yang & Yin Yoga as it relates to Yang & Yin Tissues in the body. Different types of tissues require different modalities of exercise. This Yin TT is a blend of all of the Yin Yoga TT'S that I've taken.

Alan Mileham is an Experienced Senior Yoga Teacher who has been teaching Yoga in Calgary since 2001. He has in access of 3000 Training Hours, and has taken many Yoga Trainings both locally and internationally. Anatomy is the key. Without an understanding of muscles and joints, true confidence in teaching Yin Yoga is elusive.
In this training we will focus on the 14 joint segments, discussing which joints are involved in our Yin postures as well as our range of motion which helps us understand why each person practices poses differently.
Having learned the 14 joint movements we will explore the 10 muscle groups involved in a Yin practice.
Our practice of poses will be augmented with movement tests we perform on each other.
In addition to lectures and demonstrations we will have 1.5 hours of Yin and or Yang practice each day.
Key concepts in this training are:

14 skeletal segments.
10 muscle groups.
7 categories of poses
tension vs compression
skeletal variations
assisted yin yoga

The key principles of this training are based on Alan’s studies with Paul Grilley.

Please note: The only prerequisite for this Level 2 Yin Training at Yoga Passage, is that you've taken some form of a basic Yin Yoga Teacher Training.
